You have probably browsed the web searching for genius hacks that will shorten the amount of time and effort you need to invest while scrubbing, and you have felt lost in the sea of information. Are the tips you’ve come across effective? What if they simply don’t work for you?

We totally understand your perplexion. It is sometimes difficult to gauge which tips found online are useful and which are not. That’s why we have enlisted some cleaning mistakes you should not make. Read on!

What should you not do when cleaning?

When cleaning your home, you always tend to be efficient. And sometimes, as you hurry to finish off everything super fast, you just end up making a larger mess. Next time you attend to your house, pay attention to the following:

*Don’t start cleaning without a well-designed plan. It’s handy to devise daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning schedules so that you know what tasks need to be covered. Once you have checked off everything on your to-do list, you will be confident you have tackled every corner of your house.

*Don’t use vinegar for everything. It is fantastic for your kitchen appliances, including garbage disposal, fridge, dishwasher, but it can do a lot of damage to your white marble, for instance. So, always make sure to double-check what cleaning solution you can apply.

*Avoid using bleach. Although some people believe bleach can combat dirt, it isn’t a cleaning agent at all. It is a disinfectant. You may use it for sanitizing surfaces, which is crucial in the COVID-19 era, but you should not use it daily because of its toxic fumes which can endanger your health at home.

*Don’t put coffee grounds or lemons in your garbage disposal to eliminate odors. This will only clog your drain. Instead, check this DIY baking soda cleaner out: sprinkle about half of a cup of baking soda into the disposal, and add a cup of white vinegar.

Allow the mixture to sit and fizz for ten minutes. Then, turn the disposal on, and run cold water to distribute the mixture through the unit.

*Don’t rinse solutions immediately. You probably believe that since most cleaning products contain powerful chemicals, they act immediately. However, even the strongest cleaning agents need 5 to 10 minutes to break down germs, bacteria, and grime, so you shouldn’t wipe them off straight away.

*Don’t wash your windows on a sunny day. Strong heat from the sun will only dry the cleaning agent more quickly, leaving unsightly hard-to-remove streaks or stains.

*Don’t wipe your windows with newspapers. Instead, use a microfiber cloth or a coffee filter. Some newspapers still use petroleum-based ink, and they will stain your hands, leaving unattractive traces on the surface.

*Don’t clean a room from floor to ceiling. If you start with your floor, and then clean your shelves and the ceiling, you will only make the floor dirty again. So think about the force of gravity before you plunge into your cleaning adventure.
